Criteria for Reviewing Digital Text Collections

The IDE has developed a catalogue of Criteria for Reviewing Digital Text Collections as a framework for the description and evaluation of digital text data sets. General criteria from the previous Criteria for Reviewing Scholarly Digital Editions have been integrated into the new catalogue. In addition, new criteria have been added that apply to digital text collections. The term ‘text collection’ is used in a broad sense to include all kinds of text data sets from a variety of disciplines, as, for example, linguistic corpora and digital archives.

Besides its general purpose, the catalogue has been designed to support the writing of reviews for a special issue of RIDE on Digital Text Collections. More information about the special issue can be found on the RIDE website.

RIDE Issue 5 published

The IDE is very happy to announce that the fifth issue of RIDE, a review journal for digital editions and resources, has just been published.

As in the first issue, we have 5 reviews (all in English) that critically assess scholarly digital editions. For your convenience, this is the table of contents:

Anuncio! Annuncio! Announcement! Version 1.1 of the Criteria for Reviewing Scholarly Digital Editions is available in two Romance languages. A Spanish version has been prepared recently by Susanna Allés Torrent and an Italian version was created by Anna Cappellotto, in collaboration with Gioele Barabucci, Antonella Ambrosio, Vera Schwarz-Ricci and Paolo Monella in 2015. The IDE encourages speakers of other Romance languages to get in touch to prepare further language versions of the catalogue.

Anuncio! La versión 1.1 de los Criterios para la reseña de ediciones digitales académicas (EDA) ya está disponible en dos lenguas románicas. La versión española ha sido preparada recientemente por Susanna Allés Torrent, y la versión italiana fue creada en 2015 por Anna Cappellotto, en colaboración con Gioele Barabucci, Antonella Ambrosio, Vera Schwarz-Ricci y Paolo Monella. Das IDE auf der ESTS 2016 / DiXiT 3 Konferenz in Antwerpen

Im Pre-Conference Workshop zu „Digital Scholarly Editing and Textual Criticism“ spricht Franz Fischer mit Gioele Barabucci über „CollateX and the formalization of textual Criticism – Bridging the gap between automated collation and edited critical texts“.

Die gesamte Session „DiXiT Network and Projects“ am Donnerstag ist sozusagen eine IDE-only Session: Nach einem Vortrag von Franz Fischer (zusammen mit Elena Pierazzo und Susan Schreibman) zum Thema „DiXiT: Research, Training, and Networking in the Field of Digital Editing“, berichten Frederike Neuber („The ‘Material Turn’ in the Light of the ‘Digital Turn’, or: how Digital Methods can Support Typographical Research in Digital Scholarly Editions“) und Roman Bleier („Back to the Manuscripts: Documentary Editing of St. Patrick’s Epistles“) aus ihrer Arbeiten im DiXiT network.

Martina Scholger wird schließlich zum Finale der Tagung am Freitag Nachmittag in der Session „Genetic Editing and Editorial Difficulties“ zu „Genetic Editing Beyond Text. Tracing the Artistic Cycle between Idea and Manifestation“ vortragen.

Außerdem chairt das IDE in zwei Sessions: Franz Fischer in Visualizing the Writing Process und Patrick Sahle in The Digital Medium and Textual Scholarship.

Das IDE auf der TEI-Konferenz in Wien

Das IDE ist auf der diesjährigen Konferenz der Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) in Wien vielfältig vertreten:

Georg Vogeler stellt in der TEI Tool-Gallery die digitale Edition Jahrrechnungen der Stadt Basel vor, die mit der TEI realisiert worden ist.

Martina Scholger und Stefan Dumont haben gemeinsam mit Peter Stadler und Stefan Majewski den TEI2German Translathon organisiert, auf dem die Community eine deutsche Version von Texten aus den Spezifikationen der TEI erstellt. Die Gruppe konnte auf den Vorarbeiten des IDE aus dem Jahr 2015 aufbauen.

Roman Bleier präsentiert gemeinsam mit Richard Hadden die Erfahrungen aus dem Letters of 1916-Projekt unter dem Titel „Capturing the crowd-sourcing process: storing different stages of crowd-sourced transcriptions in TEI„.

Zusammen mit Richard Breen spricht er über „Documenting Transmission: The Analysis of the Folk Process using Versioning Machine 5.0„

Stefan Dumont und Alexander Czmiel haben gemeinsam mit S. Haaf, T. Kraft, C. Thomas und M. Boenig einen Vortrag über „Applying Standard Formats and Tools“ vorbereitet. Stefan Dumont ist auch aktiv in der SIG Correspondance.

Georg Vogeler spricht über „Encoding Text about Things“ (Folien auf Slideshare) und moderiert die Sektion „Editing (2): Ancient texts„.
